Margaret was born in 1807 in Leitrim Co. Ireland.  Margaret's father was Michael Fox and her mother was Mary McGloin.  Her paternal grandfather was John Fox and her paternal grandmother is Wife Unknown (Fox). She had four brothers and three sisters, named Darby, Michael, John, Patrick, Nellie, Bridget and Polly.  She was the third oldest of the eight children. She had a half-brother named Francis.
